Broadway actress Gail Bean plays a teen in new film, Unexpected, about a teacher and student who discover they’re both pregnant at the same time.
Classically trained Gail Bean has played roles from August Wilson to Sam Shepard. Her theatrical spotlight spawned from playing the adolescent Lena Horne off-Broadway. She was later cast as Tommy Ford’s illegitimate daughter in the feature film, “At Mamu’s Feet.” At age 5, Bean began ballet and developed her love for performing. Mentor Rodney Perry and acting coach Lalanya Masters opened Bean to the possibilities of where her artistry could take her. Bean decided to take on acting full time and devoted herself to studying the craft professionally. She studied abroad in Europe and trained in Los Angeles, New York and her hometown Atlanta. In New York, Bean trains at the Susan Batson Studios, and studies with Tony Greco when in Los Angeles, where she now resides.
The film is out July 24 (distributed by The Film Arcade) both in theaters and on-demand/iTunes. Listen in on our quick phone conversation as Gail talks new movie roles, reality shows, advice for other aspiring actors.
