“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak!” -Rachel Zoe.
When it comes to STYLE in 2017, people are now more willing than ever to step outside of the box and really express who they are/what they stand for! So, what exactly makes someone a “stylist”? Is it labels or is just pure talent? Meet Mr. Flyydotcom! He’s a stylist who’s allowing his vision to flow through clothes. From putting together looks for stars like Stevie J, Jazmine Sullivan, and Keri Hilson to launching his own clothing line, EleveXII, Mr. Flyydotcom has certainly solidified his place in the fashion industry. Recently, we had the honor of chatting with this dynamic visionary and he was more than happy to share how he sees the world of fashion.
Worked with a lifestyle Photog for the first time in NYC. It was pretty magical.✨This summer has taught me patience, discipline, and most of all to stop being so damn prideful lol everything will not be handed to you, some shit you have to fight for. But fr through all Gods trials most importantly guys learn from the lesson.
Kerry: How did your career start as a stylist?
Flyydotcom: I started styling around 2011 for a Statewide Fashion Show at the University of Alabama. I think before then it’s something everyone eventually think they can do, especially starting off styling yourself. It was very nerve wrecking but turned out to be better than what I thought. Styling over 15 males is never easy but I knew from then it was something I would be doing for a very long time.
Kerry: How important is branding?
Flyydotcom: Branding is extremely important when trying to produce “any” business. I don’t know how much I could stress this. Branding is an important factor of my success today. It’s what makes you believable.
Kerry: Talent Vs Attitude: Which is more important and why?
Flyydotcom: Attitude is important, it’s reflects your inner self. It could tarnish your talent or dreams before even being realized. It could also be a good thing. Be careful what you choose.
Kerry: What designer(s) inspired you to follow your dreams?
Flyydotcom: This may sound a little cliché but entertainers turned fashion moguls like Pharrell Williams, Kanye West are really the ones who inspired/inspires me. Letting people know you can absolutely come from nothing and prosper. First, being male then African American is inspiring alone for upcoming stylists and designers. But on another note, I love Givenchy and Michael Costello.
Kerry: How do you define the word L O V E?
Flyydotcom: Hmmm “love.” Love is warmth, caring, it’s timeless. It’s a feeling from within. To be loved or in love can be the greatest feeling ever.
Kerry: What’s next for flyydotcom?
Flyydotcom: Currently I’m working on ELEVXII (www.elevxii.com) and I’m super excited about it. You should def check out the website for updates etc. Other than that, new trends and fashion is always in the works!
Kerry: Let’s have some fun! If you had to pick a color to describe your personality, what would it be?
Flyydotcom: Red, it describes me in so many ways from fraternity colors to high school colors. Red to me reflects passion, strength, & love. It also looks good on me (LOL).
Kerry: I’ve really enjoyed talking to you! You’re so bright and full of ambition. If you could leave a quote for aspiring visionaries such as yourself, what would it be?
Flyydotcom: “YOU are your biggest investment”…
